One of the cardinal rules of a notary public is not to notarize any forms for someone that is not in your presence when they sign said forms. Notaries are also not allowed to notarize blank forms. Many times these rules cause issues, and people try to push the “who’s gonna know” rule. Especially in the work place, co-workers or bosses may ask you to notarize a document for them that others have already signed: remember you will be the one that has to deal with the consequences. According to Texas code, the document should always be signed in your presence with proper identification.
